650 Group Launches Network-as-a-Service (Naas) Report Focused Exclusively on the Enterprise WLAN Market

3/31/2022

HPE Aruba’s NaaS Announcements Change the Consumption Model Dialogue with Customers

Incline Village, Nevada – March 31, 2022 – An upcoming report by 650 Group, a leading Market Intelligence Research firm for communications, campus, data center, and cloud markets, provides unique insight into the NaaS market for enterprise WLAN.  The latest report reflects the idea that the needs of the enterprises are different now and will continue to evolve away from pure CAPEX consumption models.

“WLAN was one of the first campus networking markets to move towards Subscription and Cloud Managed over a decade ago with most vendors aggressively ramping their Cloud Managed offerings in 2021,” said Chris DePuy, Founder and Technology Analyst at 650 Group.  “NaaS is a natural progression in how vendors will change their product offerings to address the change in consumption models and make up an increasing percentage of WLAN during the next five years.”

The Quarterly Enterprise WLAN –  NaaS report looks at the adoption rate of NaaS compared to Cloud Managed Solutions and provides additional segments by business size and other adoption metrics.  The reports will also look at the vendor’s current revenue splits between traditional CAPEX and subscription-related revenue.  Future reports will include additional segmentation and vendors.

Wireless LAN Infrastructure Semiconductor Lead Times Remain Elevated, According to 650 Group

3/9/2022

Enterprise WLAN Systems Shipments Grew 4% Y/Y 4Q21, on Double-Digits Chip Orders Growth

Incline Village, Nevada – March 9, 2022 – A newly released report by 650 Group, a leading Market Intelligence Research firm for communications, data center, and cloud markets, indicates that the Wireless LAN (WLAN) Infrastructure Semiconductor primary radio units grew 4% Y/Y in 4Q21, as measured at the time of system shipments.

"Order growth for WLAN Infrastructure radios has been higher than shipments for several quarters, as the industry grapples with supply chain disruptions," said Chris DePuy, Founder and Technology Analyst at 650 Group. "New radio chips supporting 6 GHz spectrum are exciting for the semiconductor companies including Broadcom, Mediatek, and Qualcomm, because the new WLAN systems require an additional radio, which expands the market opportunity by 50%. We are optimistic about growth for both Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 units, taking advantage of the new 6 GHz spectrum. Users of WLAN equipment that supports 6 GHz in the U.S. market, for instance, will see a three-fold increase in spectrum, which ushers in an era of multi-gigabit per seconds speeds."

The Wireless LAN Infrastructure Semiconductor publication indicates that Broadcom, Qualcomm, and MediaTek are the top three Wireless LAN semiconductor companies measured by primary radio units. The report also includes a market share analysis of Renesas Celeno, Huawei, Intel, NXP, ON Semi, Realtek, and others, including a short-term and long-term forecast.

Cloud-Managed Enterprise Wireless LAN Services Revenues Grew 37% Y/Y, According to 650 Group

3/2/2022

Enterprise WLAN Market Rebounded 20% in 4Q21, Driven by Significant Price Increases

Incline Village, Nevada – March 2, 2022 – A newly released report by 650 Group, a leading Market Intelligence Research firm for communications, data center, and cloud markets, indicates that the Enterprise Wireless LAN (WLAN) Infrastructure Market grew 20% Y/Y in 4Q21 to approximately $2.3 B. The report also highlighted that Cloud-Managed WLAN Services experienced 37% Y/Y revenue growth, an acceleration versus the previous quarter.

"Cloud-Managed WLAN Services are growing faster than hardware sales as a larger group of vendors embrace this exciting technology. 650 Group’s quarterly Cloud-Managed Services publication shows that some leading vendors: Commscope, Extreme Networks, HPE Aruba, and Juniper Networks are growing more rapidly than the overall Cloud-Managed WLAN services market," said Chris DePuy, Founder and Technology Analyst at 650 Group. "Another major factor driving revenue growth is mix shifts towards higher-end products and price hikes to factor in supply challenges. This has driven average selling prices higher. We anticipate that the Enterprise WLAN market will stay at elevated pricing for the foreseeable future, reversing price erosion trends seen in years past.

DePuy continued, "As prices trend higher and subscriptions become mandatory, we anticipate that customers will demand more from vendors, who are offering innovative cloud services like location services, advanced network troubleshooting, and deployment acceleration systems. We think there will be an increasing focus on these services and will be as influential in vendor selection as vendor selection of radio technology offered in access points."

The Cloud-Managed Network Services publication indicates that the top five vendors are Cisco Systems, Extreme Networks, HPE Aruba, Commscope, and Juniper. In the Enterprise WLAN report, Cisco Systems, HPE Aruba, Ubiquiti, Commscope, and Extreme rounded out the top five players by revenue.

Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 6E Enterprise Wireless LAN Market Forecast Exceeds $4B in the Next Five Years ACCORDING TO 650 GROUP

6/1/2020

New Enterprise WLAN Forecast Consistent with Previous Projections for 2020

PORTOLA VALLEY, Calif.  June 1, 2020 —  According to a newly released WLAN market report issued by 650 Group, revenues of the Enterprise Plus Outdoor Wireless LAN market declined 3%.  650 Group expects full-year 2020 revenues to decline, and following that, the market will rebound.  In the next year, Wi-Fi 6E Enterprise Plus Outdoor WLAN Access Points will begin shipping to enterprises.

“While the pandemic has negatively impacted the Enterprise WLAN market, we expect a rebound beginning in the second half of 2020. 650 Group quantitative studies of end-markets, verticals, including hospitality, retailing, and education have seen reductions in demand, while logistics and shipping have seen increases.  We are encouraged that the US FCC has rapidly moved forward with plans to allow indoor 6 GHz unlicensed wireless, which will lead to Enterprise Wi-Fi 6E shipments in the next year,” said Chris DePuy, Technology Analyst and Founder of 650 Group.

Additionally, we have made the first and market-leading Enterprise-class Wi-Fi 7 Access Point forecast, which leverages the same new spectrum, and builds upon the expected progress of Wi-Fi 6E.  We expect these new Wi-Fi Access Points will see increased demand as companies leverage the new 6 GHz, first in the US, and then in other countries over the coming years, ” continued DePuy.

Cloud-managed Wireless LAN revenues associated with Enterprises experienced significant growth in 2019 and is forecast to continue its growth during the forecast period ending 2024.  The recently published report’s forecast includes the impact of new cloud-managed services that address the health crisis, including proximity tracing and hot zone alerting.  The report includes market share analysis on vendors including Adtran, Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, Allied Telesis, Arista Networks, Cambium Networks, Cisco Systems, Commscope, DasanZhone, Engenius, Everest Networks, Extreme Networks, Fortinet, H3C, Huawei, HPE Aruba, Juniper Networks, Lancom, Samsung, Ubiquiti and others.
