650 Group Launches Network-as-a-Service (Naas) Report Focused Exclusively on the Campus Ethernet Switch Market

3/24/2022

HPE Aruba’s NaaS Announcements Change the Consumption Model Dialogue with Customers

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nevada– March 24, 2022 – An upcoming report by 650 Group, a leading Market Intelligence Research firm for communications, campus, data center, and cloud markets, provides unique insight into the NaaS market for campus/enterprise switching.  While Managed Service Providers (MSPs) historically took vendor equipment to offer solutions ‘as-a-Service,’ vendors offering the solution directly via the channel are a relatively new phenomenon of the past two years.  650 Group’s latest report reflects the idea that the needs of the enterprises are different now and will continue to evolve away from pure CAPEX consumption models.

This week's HPE Aruba GreenLake announcement signals how the shift to NaaS is in full motion. By mid 2023, 650 Group expects that each of the top global networking vendors will offer a complete menu of campus Ethernet and related network management solutions to be available in the Cloud Managed and NaaS consumption models.

“NaaS is not a new concept for Campus Ethernet Switch networks. However, it has historically been implemented by MSPs or local resellers,” said Alan Weckel, Founder and Technology Analyst at 650 Group.  “Vendors will continue to shift revenue away from traditional one-time CAPEX models towards subscription and NaaS to meet customer demand.  Customers want increased options and flexibility as hybrid and remote work are here to stay, and applications reside in a multi-cloud world, not just in the premises data center.”

The Quarterly Ethernet Switch – Campus Switching NaaS report includes segmentation on a regional and worldwide basis and provides market data for the China and non-China markets.  It also looks at the adoption rate of NaaS compared to Cloud Managed Solutions and provides additional segments by business size and other adoption metrics. The reports will also look at the vendor’s current revenue splits between traditional CAPEX and subscription-related revenue. Future reports will include additional segmentation and vendors.

About the NaaS Reports

Ethernet Switch Market Reaches New All-Time High in 4Q'21, According to 650 Group

3/2/2022

Data Center Switching Records from Cloud and Hyperscalers; Campus Switching Records From Strong Cloud Managed Growth

INCLINE VILLAGE NV– March 2, 2022 – A newly released report by 650 Group, a leading Market Intelligence Research firm for communications, data center, and cloud markets, reveals that the Ethernet Switch Market grew over 5% Y/Y in 4Q21 to over $9 B.  The report also revealed significant regional differences in vendor performance with many records set.
Highlights for the quarter include:
  • Ethernet Switch Market exceeds $9B per quarter run-rate for the first time
  • 2021 Full-year revenue records for Arista, Fortinet, H3C, HPE Aruba, Huawei, Ruijie, Ubiquiti, and White Box
  • Over 100K Branded 400 Gbps ports for the first time in 4Q21
  • A significant transition towards Cloud Managed and Subscription revenue in campus switching
"The Ethernet Switch market hit record levels in 4Q’21 as vendors could increase shipments into broad-based demand amongst campus deployments for enterprises and expanded data center demand," said Alan Weckel, Founder and Technology Analyst at 650 Group.  "2022 results will depend on the ability of the supply chain to continue to heal as the campus switch market continues to transition to subscription revenue and Hyperscalers ramp 400 Gbps and begin to trial 800 Gbps."

The Quarterly Ethernet Switch report indicates that the top four campus switch vendors after Cisco in North America were HPE Aruba, Extreme Networks, Ubiquiti, and Juniper.  The top three branded data center switch vendors after Cisco in North America were Arista, Juniper, and Dell.  In addition, the report highlights how business size, vertical exposure, and hyperscaler adoption drove vendor performance in 4Q21.

Data Center Switching Expands Into Strong 400 Gbps Upgrade Cycle; Campus Switching Records Record Quarter

Incline Village, Nevada – December 2, 2021 – A newly released report by 650 Group, a leading Market Intelligence Research firm for communications, data center, and cloud markets, indicates that the Ethernet Switch Market grew nearly 5% Y/Y in 3Q21 to nearly $9.0 B.  The report also revealed significant regional differences in vendor performance with many records set.

"The Ethernet Switch market hit record levels in 3Q21 as vendors were able to overcome supply constraints and pass on costs to customers," said Alan Weckel, Founder and Technology Analyst at 650 Group. "Supply chain control remains key to 2022 results as Hyperscalers ramp 400 Gbps and the market braces for record CAPEX growth from the Cloud.  In campus switching, price increases implemented in early 2021 helped the market reach new record highs.  For 2022, we expect continued strength across almost all segments of Ethernet Switching.”

The Quarterly Ethernet Switch report also indicates that the top four campus switch vendors after Cisco in North America were HPE Aruba, Extreme, Ubiquiti, and Juniper.  The top three branded data center switch vendors after Cisco in North America were Arista, Juniper, and Dell.  The report highlights how business size, vertical exposure, and hyperscaler adoption drove vendor performance in 2Q21.  Future reports will include Network-as-a-Service and 1.6 Tbps.

Ethernet Switch Market Grew Nearly 10% in 1Q’21, According to 650 Group

6/2/2021

Data Center Switching Records Strongest Growth; Campus Switching Records Third Straight Quarter of Y/Y Growth

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – June 2, 2021 – A newly released report by 650 Group, a leading Market Intelligence Research firm for communications, data center, and cloud markets, indicates that the Ethernet Switch Market grew nearly 10% for 1Q’21 to approximately $7.5 B.  The report also revealed significant regional differences, with China showing robust growth in 2020 and with Europe, Japan, and the United States all contracting.

"The Ethernet Switch market continued to perform robustly, despite supply constraints and an uneven recovery from COVID-19," said Alan Weckel, Founder and Technology Analyst at 650 Group. "400 Gbps set another record as T2 Cloud performance was inconsistent, but hyperscaler and telco cloud growth remained robust.   In Campus switching, mid-market began to grow again, and verticals hit by COVID-19 such as retail began their recovery.  2021 will see significant market share shifts as vendors have different exposure to verticals and regional theatres.”
The Quarterly Ethernet Switch report also indicates that the top four campus switch vendors after Cisco in North America were HPE Aruba, Extreme, Ubiquiti, and Juniper.  The top three data center switch branded vendors after Cisco in North America were Arista, Juniper, and Dell.  The report highlights how business size, vertical exposure, and hyperscaler adoption drove vendor performance in 1Q’21.  Future reports will include Network-as-a-Service and 1.6 Tbps.
