China, North America and Data Center Interconnect Drive Data Center Ethernet Switch Market in 2Q17, According to 650 Group

9/7/2017

Portola Valley, California – September 7, 2017 – A newly released market leading report by 650 Group indicates that Data Center Ethernet Switch market revenue and port shipments hit a record in 2Q17.  Arista, Dell, H3C, Juniper, and White Box all achieve all time record revenue results.  New platforms and strong demand drove growth.

“The Data Center Ethernet Switch market grew robustly in 2Q17 as many vendors, segments, and regions all reached new record highs,” said Alan Weckel, Founder and Technology Analyst at 650 Group.  “40 Gbps rebounded strongly in the enterprise segment while Cloud providers drove record shipments of 25/100 Gbps products.  The market also saw data center interconnect and open networking contribute significantly to the market growth”

The Quarterly Data Center Ethernet Switch report related to this segment indicates that Arista, Cisco, Dell, and Juniper are the largest US branded vendors in this space while Huawei and H3C remain the largest vendors in China.

40 Gbps Ethernet Switch Revenues Surges in 2Q17, According to 650 Group

8/15/2017

Cloud Continues to Deploy 40 Gbps While 100 Gbps Ramps Aggressively

Portola Valley, California – August 15, 2017 – An upcoming report by 650 Group will indicate that the Ethernet Switch Market will grow robustly in 2Q17.  The report will also indicate that 100 Gbps revenues continued to expand, and also that 40 Gbps revenues grew strongly on a quarter-over-quarter basis on robust Cloud, Telco, and Enterprise demand.

“Bandwidth demand in the Cloud was so significant in 2Q17 that Cloud providers adopted significant quantities of both 40 Gbps and 100 Gbps solutions.  Demand was robust in all Cloud verticals.  Typically at this point in an upgrade cycle, customers would have moved away from the previous technology at a more rapid pace then what we have seen so far in 2017,” said Alan Weckel, Founder and Technology Analyst at 650 Group.  “However, demand from the Cloud has been so robust that both  40 and 100 Gbps Ethernet have both been strong.  Additionally, we anticipate volumes of 40 Gbps and 100 Gbps in the enterprise campus market will pick up as vendors such as Cisco and HPE Aruba have both had significant new product introductions.”

The Quarterly Ethernet Switch report will also look at regional differences in the market as preliminary results indicate significant share differences in China, Europe, and North America amongst the largest vendors such as Arista, Cisco, Dell, Extreme, H3C, HPE, Huawei, and Juniper.

100 Gbps Revenues Surge in the Ethernet Switch Market in 1Q17, According to 650 Group Cloud and Data Center Spending Dominate Mix

6/1/2017

Portola Valley, California – June 1, 2017 – A newly released report by 650 Group indicates that the Ethernet Switch Market declined on strong seasonality in 1Q17 to slightly above $6 Billion.  The report also indicated that 100 Gbps revenues surpassed 40 Gbps revenues for the first time as Cloud providers and large enterprises adopt the higher speed.

“100 Gbps set a record in revenue and port shipments during 1Q17 as the market was driven by both merchant silicon and custom ASIC solutions.  100 Gbps adoption spread well beyond the large Cloud providers,” said Alan Weckel, Founder and Technology Analyst at 650 Group.  “Semiconductor designs for data center networking systems are expected to undergo a rapid pace of advancement over the next several years in order to keep up with strong demand from the Cloud, especially Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Google, and Microsoft.  Vendors exposed to the data center, especially the Cloud and Telco Cloud continue to gain share”

The Quarterly Ethernet Switch report related to this segment indicates that Arista, Cisco, HPE, and Juniper are the market leaders in the Ethernet Switch Market in 1Q17 in the United States while H3C and Huawei are the market leaders in China.

Additionally, 650 Group also published that the Enterprise WLAN market grew over 10% Y/Y, driven in part by over 50% Y/Y growth in cloud-managed services revenue.
