In this report, we track the emerging market of Programable and Accelerated switches. Programmable and Accelerated switches continue to grow in popularity via a mix of ASIC and FPGA accelerated products and more programmability in general-purpose ASICs including some with advanced P4 programmable data planes. This is a new category within DC Switching and is another good example of Ethernet Switches taking on additional use cases and functionality to increase its addressable market. All switches included in this report can be used as general-purpose DC Switches or in adjacent markets. Adjacent market examples can include campus switching aggregation/core a Carrier Ethernet/SP switch.

- FPGA Accelerated:
- This class of switch has FPGA included in line with the networking ASIC to do additional processing. It is typically used on high-frequency trading and other financial applications.
- Low Latency Switch ASIC:
- This class of switch has a networking ASIC designed for low latency use cases. It is typically used on high frequency trading, other financial applications, and the HPC market.
- Programmable Switch ASIC:
- This class of switch has a programmable networking ASIC and/or an additional complex of DPU(s) which are software programmable in P4/P4+ extensions enabling them to address a wide variety of new applications, protocols and software-defined stateful services beyond the capabilities in a traditional datacenter switch. The first switch in this new platform category is the Aruba CX 10000 with embedded Pensando’s DPU’s, making it very applicable for use-cases across data center, colocation/edge or campus deployments.
